BREAKING NEWS: 09-12-07: We are very excited to announce that Jamie Dwyer
has won the prestigious FIH World Hockey Player of the year award in Kuala Lumpur last night. Jamie also won the award in 2004. Fellow Kookaburra and good mate Mark Knowles has won the Junior Word Player of the year. Congratulations to both of you! Read the FIH article here here. ABC News: “Dwyer named World Player of the year”

Jamie told us he was very happy and surprised that he won the award and it means a lot to him as he didn’t expect to win it again after winning it in 2004. Back in 2004 the awards were presented in Pakistan during the Champions Trophy and the Kookaburras did not play in that event for political reasons so Jamie was not there to receive the award in person. This time he was there to receive it in front the crowd and more importantly his parents who are there to watch him pay.

In an interview with FOX sports he said: “I'm not getting any younger. I'm 28 years old now and to know that I can match it with the best and to get voted by the players is something very special. I'm very, very happy,'' Dwyer said. “In 2004, I couldn't receive it because the Champions Trophy was in Pakistan and we didn't go to it, so I received it over the phone pretty much. “This time it was extra special with my mum and dad here and Mark's mum and dad here as well and they are very close to our family because Mark is from the same city.''

10/07/08 Faster, Stronger Dwyer” Athens gold is not enough for Kookaburras kingpin Jamie Dwyer, writes Richard Hinds. It happens in slow motion now. That fraction of a second that changed his life. Changed his sport. He can make that frantic blur last long enough to have the schoolkids or the sportsmen's nights crowd or reporters listening to his well-rehearsed version shifting to the edge of their seats. It is the dying moments of extra time in the Olympic hockey final in Athens. Australia 1, Holland 1. Read the rest of the Sydney Morning Herald article here. 25/09/08: After a Bronze medal in Beijing and a long rest after that we are back online and sorry about not keeping you up to date so much lately. Jamie has had a good rest after the Olympics and is now back in Holland playing for his club team Bloemendaal. After the disappointment of not making the final in Beijing Jamie needed a good rest and he had a nice holiday back at his parents place. It didn’t last long because the club season in Holland started on the 21st of September, so he had to pack his bags once more and left for Holland on the 9th of September. After a few weeks in Holland everything is going good, he has settled back into Amsterdam and won his first competition match 4-0 and scored two nice goals, which is not a bad start. You can check out the highlights of the first match on the right. Or practice your Dutch and see the latest Video Interview with Jamie HERE.
